Fun-in-a-Box
The Dr. Seuss Matching Game
Rules
Ages 4 and Up * 2 to
4 Players
Object:
The object of the game is to collect the most Book Cover
Cards.
Contents:
-
40 Book Cover Cards (20 green and 20 blue)
-
1 Double-Sided Game Board
-
4 Playing Pieces
-
1 Spinner
Set-Up:
The game board has two sides (one blue and one green). If it is a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, set
up the blue side of the board and use the blue Book Cover Cards. If it is a Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday,
set up the green side of the board and use the green Book Cover Cards. If it is a Sunday, play the game twice. Punch out the Book Cover Cards from the
punch sheet.
- Place
the appropriately colored Book Cover Cards face down in the outlined areas
in the center of the game board.
- Each
player chooses a playing piece and places it on the white colored “Pick a
Book” space to start.
Playing the Game:
- The
youngest player goes first by spinning the spinner.
- After
spinning, the player has the option of moving anywhere from 1 space to the
number spun. (If a 4 is spun, the
player may move from 1 to 4 spaces.)
- Players
move their playing pieces in a clockwise direction. After a player moves the number of
spaces s/he chooses, s/he turns over one Book Cover Card from the center
for all the players to see. If the
player turns over the Book Cover Card matching the space that s/he
occupies, then s/he takes that Book Cover Card and places it face up in
front of him/her.
- If a
player turns over a Book Cover Card that does not match the space s/he
occupies, that player must turn the Book Cover Card face down.
- If a
player lands on “Pick a Book” space, s/he can take any Book Cover Card
from the middle and place it face up in front of him/her. Play continues in a clockwise
direction.
- If a
player lands on a space that matches a Book Cover Card s/he already has,
s/he may spin again.
- If a
player lands on a space that matches a Book Cover Card another player
already has, his/her turn is over.
Winning the Game:
The game ends when all Book Cover Cards have been collected.
The player with the highest number of Book Cover Cards wins.
